The Red Mini Goldendoodle is a mix between a Miniature Poodle and Golden Retriever. They typically weigh between 15 lbs. and 30 lbs. Red Mini Goldendoodles are usually between 14″ to 17″ tall.

Females are lighter and smaller than males. You can get a rough estimate of the puppy’s weight by adding the height of both parents together and dividing the sum by 2.

Red Mini Goldendoodle Coat Color

The coat of a Mini Red Goldendoodle can differ in color.  Look at the pup’s ears to get an idea about its adult color. You should also take the pedigree into account. The red color is a dilute black gene.

When 2 red parents are bred, the pups will be apricot or red. Breeding red with black, brown or white will produce black pups because black is the dominant color. Carrying the true red gene is an extremely rare occasion.

Red often fades once the pup matures. When 2 brown parents are bred, the pups will also be brown. Breeding black with brown will produce black pups. The puppy may also look different once it grows. This is particularly true for designer breeds like the Mini Goldendoodle.

You may love the red color, but it’s more important to consider the pup’s temperament. It is important for the pup to be loved and socialized, especially during its first 5 months of life because this period is crucial for its development.

Types of Red Mini Goldendoodle Coat

Straight

This kind of coat is easy to maintain. It needs minimal brushing and won’t have any crimping or waves on the pup’s forehead. Dogs with a straight coat may shed.

Curly

A puppy with a curly coat may show crimping or waves on its forehead. Its coat can have a tight or loose curl. Curly coats need to be brushed every day. It’s considered non-shed, so this kind of coat is a good option for those who have allergies.

Wavy or loose

This is a low to non-shed coat, so it’s easy to maintain. Dogs with wavy and loose coats should be brushed at least once a week, especially the common friction spots. These areas include the hind quarters, underarms and behind the ears. Pups with a wavy or loose coat won’t have any crimping or waves on their forehead.

Red Mini Goldendoodle Temperament

The Red Mini Goldendoodle is an intelligent dog that is known for being snappy and aloof to strangers. They are devoted to their owners, but they are quite shy. This is why they are wary of people they’re not familiar with. This wariness may lead them to bite and growl.

Red Mini Goldendoodles have a loving and protective nature. Due to this temperament, they will bark at perceived intruders to protect their owners. Socialization with various animals and people from a young age can help correct this behavior.

These dogs are a social breed and are good with children. Your Red Mini Goldendoodle will be happy to follow you around the house. This breed also gets along well with other dogs and family pets as long as they are socialized and introduced properly.

Red Mini Goldendoodle Health

Using unhealthy dogs for breeding could lead to various health problems. This is why it is important to see the pup’s parents and choose a reliable breeder. The Red Mini Goldendoodle is susceptible to the following health problems:

Eye disorders

Red Mini Goldendoodles are susceptible to PRA or progressive retinal atrophy, an eye disorder that usually starts with night blindness followed by worsening day vision. Eventually, the dog becomes blind.

Hip dysplasia

Hip dysplasia pertains to a condition wherein the hip socket is abnormally formed. This condition can develop into joint arthritis. Symptoms include trouble rising, climbing and running and decreased activity.

Exercise

The Red Mini Goldendoodle is enthusiastic and energetic, so you won’t have any problems when it comes to their exercise. They don’t need as much physical activity as larger dogs. A 20-minute walk is enough for them. Red Mini Goldendoodles love to swim, so you can take them to the beach.

These dogs love games of fetch and chase. Walks will give them a chance to meet new dogs and people. Stimulate their innate social ability by walking them in a dog park.

Diet

The Red Mini Goldendoodle requires a diet that is rich in high quality fat and protein. If your dog has an allergy to grains, you should find a grain-free kibble. Buy one that contains oats or quinoa. Stay away from foods with common allergens such as dairy, corn and soy.

Choose an all-natural feed. Go for those that contain whole proteins like eggs and chicken. Avoid foods with colors, flavors and preservatives. If you’re going for dry kibble, you have to give them about 1 ½ to 2 cups every day. Divide this amount between 2 meals.

Red Mini Goldendoodle Shedding and Grooming

The Red Mini Goldendoodle is a hypoallergenic dog which sheds less than other breeds. Not all Mini Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic, so ask the breeder about this matter before you purchase one. Their coat varies in texture and look. Some dogs have a curly fur, while others have a shaggy coat.

Depending on the specific coat of your dog, unclipped coat should be combed or brushed every other day. Use a wide-toothed comb or pin brush.  Clipped coats are more manageable but they also need to be brushed every week. Use a mild shampoo for your dog because dogs have sensitive skin.

As long as both parents are fit, your Red Mini Goldendoodle will be a healthy and happy dog. Since this breed is susceptible to hip dysplasia, you may want to know the hip score of both parents. You may also want to get the pup tested for genetic skin conditions.

Ask for a genetic health test from the breeder. The breed’s miniaturization has increased its risk for certain health problems such as eye and breathing disorders. Your Red Mini Goldendoodle will live for 10 to 15 years, provided that it is loved, fed a proper diet and well-cared for.
